Achlys triphylla ssp. triphylla
||An appealing west coast native, growing in woodland shade. Spring-flowering with bottlebrush-like white flowers but the main interest in this plant are the large, scallop-edged leaves. Although when fresh the leaves are not fragrant, when picked, dried and crushed, a sweet vanilla scent is released. AKA: 'Sweet after death' & ‘Deer Foot’ Surprisingly drought tolerant but loves a moist site. A memorable sight in a mass planting. Picture taken at Chase Gardens by Mikey Chance.
