A native to New Zealand, orange sedge is one of the most popular choices for landscape use in New Zealand. This grass has tufted evergreen foliage with a clumping growth habit. The foliage is olive green with orange-brown highlights that appear with full sun at the tips. This Carex will also sport that orange-brown color in the fall and winter months. Orange New Zealand Sedge will flower in midsummer with two foot spikes, later fruit will set and the spike can elongate up to 5 feet. This grass is great in smaller areas only reaching two feet with a two foot spread. Works great in the landscape as well as in mixed containers, particularly fall-themed.
