Cheilanthes argentea

Silver Cloak Fern

The small fronds are green on top and a shocking silvery white beneath. Cheilanthes sinuata

Wavy Cloak Fern

Syn. Astrolepis sinuata and Notholaena sinuata. A beautiful little Native American fern that is extremely drought tolerant. Can be observed in drifts at an 8000 foot elevation of Big Bend National Park. Now that's tough! Its slightly grayish pale green fronds contrast well with dark green foliages. Even though it will tolerate droughts it will grow well in the landscape where it is watered three times a week. It requires perfect drainage, as persistent moistness would kill it, & it is especially at risk in wet winters. Found in crevices, rocks and slopes, often on limestone.
