The spidery flowers are a beautiful orange-yellow. It requires a hot, dry resting period during summer to promote flowering. It goes dormant in summer, after the foliage has died back and before the flowers emerge. During this period it needs virtually no water at all. Stunning in cut flower arrangements with a long vase life. A very long-lived, durable, easy to grow lily for a wide range of garden soils and sites. Mulch well in zone 7.

The tall leafless stalks topped with clusters of brilliant red flowers appear seemingly overnight and out of nowhere. The bright red flowers make it one of the showiest plants in the Fall garden. AKA: Surprise Lily, Magic Lily, Naked Lily In mid to late summer, this bulb it lives up to its common name by erupting from the ground with inch-thick stems quickly to 2 ft tall, and blooms with a cluster of 6-8 slightly nodding lilac pink flowers. The flowers are fragrant and striking, like small Amaryllis with rose pink petals flushed with lavender highlights. The grayish strap like leaves do not appear until the following spring. It goes dormant in summer, after the foliage has died back and before the flowers emerge. During this period it needs virtually no water at all. This is the hardiest of the species. A very long-lived, durable, easy to grow lily for a wide range of garden soils and sites.
