Overheated shipment reports are at an unusual high this summer so we are going to suspend shipping until just after Labor Day. Thank you for understanding. -Big Dipper Farm
This is a very large bog plant with leaves that can reach 3-4’ across. Hardier than Gunnera but likes the same moist soils and are frequently used in pondside plantings. Under ideal conditions this giant can be a very aggressive spreader and should only be used in a large area or where it can be contained. The large, greenish-mauve flowers bloom close to the ground in early spring and the new leaves appear soon afterwards. The stalks and flower buds are edible.

Petasites japonicus 'Variegata'
Giant Japanese Butterbur
This is the variegated variety of this very large plant with leaves that 'can' get 3 feet wide. The non-variegated may get larger. The large, greenish-mauve flowers bloom close to the ground in early spring and the new leaves appear soon afterwards. Hardier than Gunnera but likes the same moist soils and are frequently used in pondside plantings. Under ideal conditions this giant can be a very aggressive spreader and should only be used in a large area or where it can be contained. It can be controlled with surrounding arid ground as it will only spread to areas with enough moisture. The stalks and flower buds are said to be edible, but I haven't tried it.

Reference Only Petasites palmatus 'Golden Palms'
Golden Coltsfoot
A wild sport discovered by Chuck ‘Eagle-eye’ Pavlich. Shimmering metallic golden ‘palms’ a foot wide preceded by pink flower spikes. A wonderful spreading marginal / bog plant that’s also at home in a moist area of the garden. Shade in southern climes but the full sun elsewhere provides the best color. Very different!
