Podophyllum peltatum Mayapple |
 |
East coast native Mayapple. A single, nodding, waxy, 3'' white flower appears on a short, thin stem in early spring. Flowers are quite showy, but usually hidden by the umbrella-like leaves. Each flower gives way to a fleshy, greenish fruit (mayapple) which turn golden when ripe. Excellent for naturalizing in woodland settings, wild or native plant gardens.

This brilliant hybrid boasts large, vigorous, lobed umbrella-shaped leaves. Leaves are chartreuse with dramatic and bizarre chocolate-brown spotting throughout the spring. Like nothing you've ever seen! In summer, the leaves are green with lightly spotted areas. Huge garnet-colored 2'' flowers are found in clusters under the leaves. Selected for its coloring, frost tolerance, vigor, and rhizomatous habit. The die-for plant for shade garden connoisseurs.
