Woodwardia fimbriata Chain Fern, Giant |
This large scale fern can handle full sun if given enough moisture, otherwise partial to heavy shade. The plume-like fronds, several per crown, of this giant chain fern may attain 8 ft in length. Good near ponds or creeks, against shaded walls, in woodland gardens. Drought tolerant once established. Although it's native to swampy conditions, it also does very well in the average garden. Not particularly frost tolerant but will survive if grown in a protected site or near sea level.

Woodwardia areolataNet-veined Chain Fern |
The 'Netted Chain Fern' forms a spreading 2' clump of very attractive glossy leathery fronds which can tolerate considerable sun. Like several other ferns it spreads by rhizomes underground, but it is not considered invasive. Although it's native to swampy conditions, it also does very well in the average garden. Perfect for that boggy area. Deciduous.
