Plume Poppy

 Plume-like beautiful coppery, coral-pink flowers over large, gray to olive-green leaves. In spite of its height it seldom needs staking. Prefers full sun but will tolerate shade. Its vigorous habit can be contained by planting into a large, black, plastic pot and planting, pot and all, into the border. Very popular in England but sadly under-utilized here in the US.

Himalayan Blue Poppy

 Often still erroneously called M. grandis, M. x sheldonii, M. x sheldonii 'Lingholm', M. 'Blue Ice' etc. This is the fertile (probably allopolyploid) hybrid widely distributed by garden centers and nurseries. Easier to grow than M. betonicifolia and is more vigorous and heat resistant. More reliably perennial if not allowed to flower the first year. Spectacular sky blue flower can get up to 4 inches across! Several on each tall stem and the show lasts well over a month.
