SEEDS - Botanical Interests - Hardy to USDA zone 4. What is a summer garden without mint? Having more uses than most herbs, spearmint is wonderful in teas, cooking, and baths just to name a few popular uses. Try adding spearmint leaves to ice-cold water for a refreshing drink on a hot summer day. Add chopped leaves to cooked vegetables, fish, meats, and fruit salads as well as candy and jellies. Plants grow to 2' tall with pale, pinkish purple flowers during mid to late summer. We recommend growing this plant in containers as roots can be invasive. Spearmint also makes a nice indoor herb on a sunny windowsill at any time of year. When to plant outside: Spring, after last chance of spring frost has passed. When to start inside: 6 weeks before average last frost. Bot: Mentha spicata
