Cercis canadensis 'Lavender Twist'

Weeping Redbud

This an amazing discovery found in Westfield, New York. Photo is of the original tree now 40 years old. Branches are both pendulous and weeping, bearing an amazing display of purple-pink flowers. If left to its own devices, it will trail to the ground and become wider than tall. Equally as beautiful in flower or in leaf, the heart-shaped leaves emerge in spring with red tinting, maturing to a dull, dark blue-green and finally yellow in fall. They overlap with age, giving a shingle effect. Needs to be staked at the central leader until it gains the desired height and then allow the leader to weep gracefully. Gorgeous! AKA: 'Covey'
